Recording: The Differences Between Analog and Digital

The differences between analog and digital recording
---------------------------------------------

- Soundquality depends EXCLUSIVELY on YOU!!!
- Ease of use. If you already have a soundcard with optical output or know how to install a soundcard then optical is easier. Otherwise, stick to analog!
- No, digital doesnt mean you get Song names transferred.

What can differ.

* Old soundcards may use bad DAC (Digital to Analog Converter). Background hsss and -distortions are likely to be audbile to any humans. Example is SB16, SB32 and slightly SB64

* Analog cable can be messy. Buy a new one, goldplatinated 1m. Cost about US$6. A more expensive cable will not add to better soundquality unless you are a dog or a cat.

* If you have alot of electronics, then this might interfere with analog recording and cause -background hsss. Very uncommon to live in such conditions

* Analog recording CD vs soundcard. If you have a CD deck newer than from the 80s. Use it! -It has better DAC (see above) than your soundcard unless you have a good one. Or use CD Reader. "See Record CD to the MD using CD-R and an analog cable" in FAQ

* Digital deck vs digital soundcard.
- Soundquality.. No difference, But I recommend CD deck so you will preserve the ctual recording volume. Otherwise.. Dont care
- Ease of use. DEck is easier and youll get a trackmarking

* Old Deck digital vs new deck digital
- Doesnt matter, digital is digital

* Old Deck analog vs new deck analog
- If its from the 80s. Arghhhhhh!!!!! Unless its state of the art for its era hehe

* USB vs soundcard digital
- No difference in soundquality
- USB is easier to install
- USB is harder to get correct if you do it the wrong way
- Pops and clicks appears more common with USB
- Some Mindiscs arent 100 % compatible with USB link
- Youre PC needs a USB port ofcourse
- Soundcard costs as much as USB link (Not SB Live Premium ofcourse)
- USB is VERY good if you are a laptop user
- Fill me in. I know theres more haha

--------------------------

Issues

* I can hear difference between analog and digital and I use top quality on everything
- Good for you. Or should I say. Bad!.
- Then do digital then. Dont hack on me!

* What shall I get?
- Dunno. What are your needs?
- Ask someone else

* As usual, I didnt understand anything
- Not my fault
- Ask someone else

* I got more confused now. Which is best
- Personal opinion. DIGITAL
- Nonpersonal, Nevermind

* You forgot the most important thing which is.....
- Send me a private message and tell me. Im curious!
