JKIM, if you could write a short review on the Headbanger (Lafferty), I'd be greatly appreciative.
I've been trying to find a summer DIY project and I can't decide if a Meta42 would be signifigantly better than a Lafferty. Thanks ,-T

JKIM: I'll try my best to answer any questions u may have
![]() SBG: That would be a great idea. That is, if there is enough of a demand.

TBDOAH, as the first DIY project i've done, i thought the Lafferty was fairly straightforward, it was only my ignorance of electronics that held me back. basically, though if you follow the instructions and get some basic info on circuits, you should be all set. from what i've read, the Cmoy and the Meta42 are about the same as far as difficulty, but a lot of people seem to like the results of those two better than the Lafferty. i'm considering making the Cmoy for a summer project, so i'll be able to give a more comprehensive review when that's completed. as far as sound is concerned, read my review in previous posts. all in all i do think that the lafferty sounds pretty good, though i tried listening to some recordings in LP4 today, and i couldn't listen for more than 5 minutes. it really brings out the artifacts. SP and LP2, however, were pretty good. if you have any specific questions let me know.

How much do the parts of a cmoy amp cost around? I'm super n00b to amps, but I'm getting ready to learn how to make one of my own
![]() My first step is to gather info on DIY amps and see how much it will make my wallet disappear.

If you are talking about the cmoy parts alone (no hookup wire, solder, soldering iron, meter etc ) you will be looking into somewhere around $50-60 Canadian. This depends on what optional accessories you purchase. I ordered most of my parts off of digikey, so shipping is included in that cost.
Placed my order, and it arrived early the next morning.

i got all my parts for the Lafferty from Radio Shack, except for the case. i used a mints case and covered the inside with electrical tape instead of using the project case.

Thanks JKIM. It was helpful.
But, I have a question, you were able to fit a Lafferty into an Altoids? Funny, I thought only CMOY's, CHA47's, Mini-Meta42's (MINT), and SuperMini's could fit into Altoids sized containers.

it is possible to fit it, you just have to plan out where all the components are going, in my case, if i hold the tin with the opening facing me, the switch and volume are on the left, the input and output are on the back left, as far left as possible(it's very close to the switch) on the front between the battery, which is all the way to the right, and the switch and volume, is the ac adapter plug. there is actually a little room left inside.
