The 17" iMac (just over a year old) has the typeface you describe but no line input. In fact Apple do not mention line input in their iMac technical pages.

i'm pretty sure they had them before the 20" model. It would have been the first revision after the eMacs were introduced (since they were the first consumer model to reintroduce them). My guess it would have been the revision after your 17", given by the time frame

i think it was the revision that started with the 1Ghz iMac, cause my bro has 800Mhz 17" iMac, and it doesnt have line in.

I have a cmt-m333nt and am just considering the switch to an emac from pc... The connectivity to pc is usb but has optical in too. I've read the options for recording from mac to md but am more interested in using the usb cable to play audio from the computer. Are there drivers that do this and if so is realtime recording to md possible

cheers

i'm not quite sure how the m333nt usb connection works, so I'll have to check up on that for you. the Xitel would probably be your best bet (USB > Optical), and yes it will be real time recording.

If you're talking about using the USB Link to control the music on the eMac from the m333nt, than no, that can't be done.

If i have the mac and the stereo close enough for the cable to reach im sure i can reach over and control things by the mac... A nice bonus but if its not possible im sure ill survive.

I spoke to apple today and they seemed to think that audio could be played directly down the usb cable so realtime recording without the adapter and on the usb to miniusb link might be possible. If it all works out ill let you know or alternatively if you find out anything id be very interested - not having owned a mac before im a bit unfamiliar with how things work...

Using a new Sony NetMD Walkman with my eMac

I recently recieved a gift from a friend who isn't very computer savy. It's a Sony NetMD Walkman MZ-NF610 Type S. I have a eMac and was hoping that by connecting the MD through a USB port that the device would mount on the desktop and at the very least I could drag and drop the music files, but this didn't work. Is there a software program that I can download/buy that will help? What else can I do?

you may be out of luck, as the NF series only records via NetMD. About your only option is VPC booted under OS 9.
