Modified hack for the mz-nf610 (possibly the 510 too)

Hey,

After reading this great post at minidisc.org:
http://forums.minidisc.org/viewtopic.php?t=55
which explains how the hack works on the MZ-R700; I tried to mess with my nf610 myself.

The only thing I want is the LINE OUT. I also wanted the 6 band equalizer but it sounds like crap compared to the original SOUND 1, SOUND 2 presets that come with my nf610. Also I hate the fact, that I have to reset the CUSTOM presets every time I shutdown my recorder.

EDITED: I said to set byte 61 to C0 (Czero) to get the 'USEFULL' AND NOT replace the original 'SOUND' menu with the 6 band equalizer SOUND menu. This work but it's not the right value. In fact, it's quite bad. Since C0 sets bit 7, it messes with the battery indicator as reported by bertrik in the following thread: More 510/610 hacking fun (page 2). Of course we don't want that. So the GOOD value is 40.

I didn't mess with the 062 byte since the minidisc.org thread doesn't give enough info on it. Besides, I only used the first part of the Wetzel 510 hack anyway.

So for those of you with a nf610 and don't want to lose the original SOUND 1 and SOUND 2, try this AT YOUR OWN RISK!!!!!

Holy boogers! I've been longing for the day this would come! I confirm that it works with the N510 100%!

Great job hunterd!

For those of you who hate the custom E.Q use this! It's awesome

Cheers,

Great find hunterd! I've also been praying someone would come up with something like this.

On a side note; this worked for you CoinSlot? I have a European 510, and heard that some non-US models freak out if you hack it. Anyone know more about this?

Yep, worked 100% as stated.

I've got the US model and it works great. Don't know about the Euro model though. I haven't read anything about it not working. Just give it a try and find out If it screws up just change the values back.

Later,

I thought I am the only one that hates that custom equalizer. It wouldn't be that bad if at least the custom presets were saved when you shutdown the recorder.

Though I will keep my EQ-modification on my N510, I would like to ask if there is any *other* way I could enhance my Output Level, besides the EQ I mean.

My N510 is EU version (Firmware 1.300) and I would like to boost the output from 2.5mW to 5mW if possible, perhaps by changing the "Region" entry (Performed the hack on a mz-nh1 unit --Menu/113 -->05 for Hong Kong/Korean-- if I can recall correctly).

Is there any way to do it?

Thanks in advance

Wow, this is an old old thread.
You kind went off topic, but nevermind....

There is no way to hack the old units for higher output - the limitation is in the hardware.

The only Euro unit that can be hacked like that is the new RH10.

Sorry!
